Thank you for the clarification. I was assuming the senate was more socialist then it is, and as for the National Assembly I really do not hear too much about them. What I gather from the blogs is that the widespread discontent in France is from many different sources converging at once : unemployment,immigration from both North and Central Africa, fear of losing social benefits, fear of globalization...etc.

The loose ends of all these concerns emerge on this blog, but not with any coherence. That is the weakness of this format, though I do continue to read it a few times a week.

I appreciate your remarks illustrating the tendency of your socialists to be somewhat like our democrats.

The issue of WW2 strikes deep in my heart. I was in Paris last October and there in huge banners on the side of a building along the Seine in Paris,(the former Police station I believe) were massive, 10 meters long by 5 meters wide, enlarged photos depicting DeGaulle and French troops ’liberating’ Paris...but not one photo of our ’boys’.As everyone knows, Eisenhower agreed to DeGaulle’s demand that we stop and allow the French army to march into Paris, giving the impression that they had liberated France,- a totally false one.

I believe that history should be taught factually, but this may never occur...(even in our own textbooks we were slow to acknowledge our destruction of the American Indians...)

Life is indeed unfair, but at least on AgoraVox we have the pleasure of considering fine carefully crafted opinions such as yours, which elevate the discussion, and , in contrast, the annoyance of the wild insults of the few who pull down the entire discussion !(I could not believe a total stranger would use the « F » word to me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
